Obviously everyone is still sleeping after a fun 2 or 3 days at the Dam chasing B*filtered* & Yellowbelly.

For me...I arrived mid-morning just behind Toni on Friday to find Sel, Gra, PDO, Wazza either already set-up or in the final stages of setting up. Once I got the mini-tent erected it was time to chew the fat over a cold ale with the others, which went on for a few hours. After the Tarp Mahal was set-up it was time for everyone to hit the water for the first session of the days play. Weather was overcast at times and windy (did I mention it was windy?) Also had a little light rain late in the session. Most went out until late arvo. Sel & PDO stayed out until well after dark. Those of us that pulled stumps at around 4:30pm preceeded to the camp fire and sample a few ales once again - all the time looking back out on the dam expecting to set digital camera flashes from Sel & PDO's catches (didn't see a thing). Everyone just settled in for the night once the park manager showed up how to make a fire (doh!). Later in the evening had arrivals from Steven and Jeff (help me hear - memory ain't the best). Had a fun filled night of stories and gags and a little alcoholic enlightenment. Also enjoyed a top nosh-up of Toni's cheesey/creamy bread dip thingy too. Thanks Toni.

Saturday - Awoke to lots of snoring (thanks PDO) and Sel waking PDO up to headout around 5am for an early fish. Not sure who else also headed out early - but I wasn't one of them. After a little brekky the remainder of us headed out for the second session around 7am-ish. Weather was windy and a little overcast (did I mention it was also windy?). Came back in around 11:30am-ish and headed back up to the camp for some lunch and a strategy meeting on what the plan is for the 3rd session in the arvo. Also did a little adjustment on the Tarp Mahal, which was coping a beating in the 25 to 30 knot gusting winds - thank Gra for bringing that along. The afternoon session was an interesting one for me, as I caught my first and only B*filtered* of 35cm in this session on a trolled spinnerbait. The 3rd session was my most successful session of the trip. Yee Haa on the board. Thye 3rd session was also probably the most windy session of the trip me thinks. Not only did we have windy (yes wind) but also had a a little rain storm come through the dam. Boy wasn't that fun? (not). Tom &n I called it a day not long after that and headed in ariound 4:30pm. We waited around for the others and headed up to the camping not long after dark. When we got back tot he camp we found that the Min-bucks B*filtered* Comp crew had well & trully arrived. Must have been a little over 100 extra people have arrived and set-up camp while we were out on the water in the arvo. There were tinnies, cars, mini-buses everywhere. And they were in between our tents and cars as well. Anywhere they could find a spot of ground there was a tent. The night was spent around tyhe camp fire once again feasting on red meat and alcoholic beverages. And again Toni arrived with yet another creamy/cheesy bread dip thingy once again for desert. Thanks once again. Toni. Yum!

Sunday - Woke at an early time to the noise of our Mini-bucks B*filtered* comp friends having breakfast and testing their voices over long distances. Believe it or not, they actually drowned-out PDO's snoring at times too. I don't think any of us slept in that morning and ended up heading out for the final session. The exceptions were PDO, Wazza, Tom and myself, who decided to we'd had enough yakking in a gusting wind and packed up and headed home.

Thanks to everyone that helped organise the trip. Much appreciated indeed. It was great to meet some new people as well. Thanks for the friendliness. And thanks to Toni for the cheesey/creamy bread dip thingos - mucho appreciated thanks. Hope to catch you all again soon.

In terms of fish caught. I believe PDO was the king on this front. Somethings like 21 fish caught overall. But I'll leave it for Sel & co to report on fish catches etc.

Cheers,

Pete

Paul

Gee mate you said your largest was 41cm, there is a couple pics of some great fish for Maroon. over 45cm is a very good fish for there.

I have a report to do, will post it later.

Glad you had fun Paul, looked like you were having a fishing trip to remember for years to come.

Cheers

Thanks again to Sel for organising the weekend and the prizes.
I arrived friday morning with Pete following behind as I "chugged" up the hills with the camper trailer in tow, to see that some of the guys already setup.
After setting up and a ale or two to dry my parched throat we headed out for an afternoon fish and planning on staying into the night.Well by late afternoon I threw in the towel due to the wind blowing and a beer more enticing than fishing.Headed up to camp to warm up and have a feed.
Saturday morning dawned to hear the wind blowin' it's tail out and with the bed being far more warmer than outside went back to sleep. When I awoke later seems like I wasn't the only one. Shocked Shocked
Had a slightly later start but seems we didn't miss any fish as they were havin a sleep in too.
Back in for lunch then out again in the late afternoon to face the wind demon. After having "blonde moment" and getting all the way across the dam only to find my box of spinnerbaits and surface lures MIA I paddled back across to the car to retrieve them. After a thorough search of the car, camp and yak I discovered them sitting in the bloody landing net the whole time.DOH!!!!!!
Spent the afternnon hiding out of the wind after a rain/wind squall blew across the dam but I got some some great shots in the middle of it.
I was fishing a small bay across from where our cars were when I saw a swirl.Hmmm....I fired a cast off only to have it fall a little too far to the left of the swirl.A few flicks and no takers so wound it back in and fired off a second cast which landed towards the back of the swirl.PURFECT!!!!!
A little twitch then let it sit for a few seconds slowly wind a little then sit again. Then BANG!!!! saw the splash and my first and only for the trip came on board.A nice 26cm B*filtered*.B*filtered* caught on a River to Sea Cicada 35 in a see thru green/tan colour.
The next morning was an early start with the B*filtered* boys being our "alarm clock".Out onto the water for an early start but no fish were to be found.
Came back to camp as the "worms" were demanding to be fed and packed up soon after brekkie to make the trip home.
I had a top weekend even though I only caught 1 B*filtered* on a surface lure.
It was great to meet a couple of new faces and to share the "odd" ale and many a laugh with you guys.
Pete...My pleasure on the dip as it's becoming an iconic notion since a Somerset trip.
Gra...Can I suggest a pad to write a "do not forget" list for yourself. Laughing Laughing Laughing
Was a very "windy" weekend but ceratinly didn't spoil the fun.I know now it's not my "fishing expertise" that was lacking when others more experienced have a hard time catching a fish. Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing
Spoke to a couple of the B*filtered* Electric guys who were also going home empty handed.
Once again a top weekend and looking forward to the next trip.
Thanks.
Toni

Hi Everybody

Well what a great weekend. Very Happy

It was fun, the weather was crap and the fish were shy but we made the most of it.

We had 13 attendees for the weekend with Paul(PDO), Wazza(Seadog), Jeff(Jeprox), Steven(Steven M), Toni(Estuary Girl), Pete(Gigantor), Tom(Tomtre), Graeme(Gra), Gerard(Shoey), Brad(Fishbrain), Andrew(Turley) and myself of course turning up for the Weekend and Wayne(Wayne d) coming up Sunday morning for a fish.

PDo and I arrived Friday Morning to find Wazza almost set up, we had initially booked a site closer to the gates to access the dam but moved up to a higher flatter area with great views of the dam close to the bbq and the amentities block. Shortly after Gra, Toni and Gigantor arrived and we all set up and soon were having some drinks and lunch before setting out for a fish for the afternoon. While we were out fish Steven M and Turley arrived to be there for the friday night.

We knew the fishing would be tough with southerly winds blowing to about 25 knots with over cast conditions. Gra showed incredible skill to catch a fish on his first cast, a 30cm Yellowbelly. It was to be a tuff afternoon for us with few fish caught. I had ageed to meet PDo at the sunken trees on dark, I was over there for ages then saw a flash in the distance toward our launch area. I peddled over to find Paul working the bank very close to our cars. Paul had caught already caught 5 off the surface when I got there and with us continuing to fish there he caught another 4 while I caught none to bring his total for the day to 9 Shocked

We went back to camp for the usual fun, food drinks and tall stories from Gra mainly. We all hit the sack early and Jeff came into the camp late that night after going to the Titans game to see his Broncos get beaten. We must have all been tired or full because not one of us heard him.

Next morning I woke at 4.00 am to get up early for a fish. I went over and woke up Paul and we were on the water by 5.15am, giving us about 45 minutes of fishing in the dark. Because Paul had caught so many fish the night before by using surface lures I started surface fishing with poppers and insect type lures. Paul continued to catch fish with many hits and misses also. I would work a spot only for Paul to come in behind me and catch a fish, it seemed I was teasing them and Paul was catching them. Turley also joined us and caught a great fish of 42cm on one of his first casts for the day. Finally after many hours of casting and hits and misses I caught one, a small one at 28 cm. Turley and Paul continued to catch fish while I went back to catching nothing. We soon got hungry and headed back to camp for brekky around 9.00 am.

Had Brekky and a relax with the others joining us after they had done their later morning session. Their stories were of not many fish about. We all had a relax, we had a show and tell of lures which was a learning experience for some of seeing the different array of lures we all had and then we decided to hit the water between 2 - 3.

I had decided to go with Paul and Turley again with the plan to head up past the dead timber and around the corner to the end of the dam. I was getting frustrated as everywhere I went Paul was catching fish off the surface one after the other and I couldn't even get a hit. The wind came up and for some reason I decided to head off and find some others. Later I found this to be a huge mistake as Paul had a great session, catching 12 b*filtered* for the afternoon all off the surface again. Shocked Paul told us he was even changing a lure and had thrown the lure to the edge of the yak in the water and was about to pick up his rod and wind in the slack and cast again, but he couldn't as a B*filtered* hooked up on his lure beside the yak, just incredible.

I went off to find Wazza on the way who had lost his favorite lure after his knot pulled Crying or Very sad and Gigantor who had finally caught a fish Very Happy . I stumbled upon the hobie crew and soon there were four hobies working a bay when gra hooked up to something m*filtered*ive as it snagged him up all so quickly. I tried to help by prodding my paddle along the bottom and also tried to talk Steven M into swimming for the mighty fish. But it was all for nothing as the leader soon broke under the force Shocked

We all went ashore and took refuge from a m*filtered*ive storm that was brewing in the dam. Mucking around as the hobie boys do, while Gra was thinking of what could have been, bad luck Gra Crying or Very sad

I made a run for it back across the dam before it got too dark as the winds were blowing straight into me at 30 knots, took me ages as I was exhausting and needed a few stops on the way over to catch my breath.

Paul and I had planned to do a night session but I was exhausted and Paul was sick of catching fish as he had caught 12 that afternoon.
We made our way back to camp to find the B*filtered* Boys had arrived for the electric comp the next day. Our campground had turned into Forest Lake Rolling Eyes It was ok in the end, all was well. Fishbrain and Shoey had also joined us now with both of them bringing their sons. Very Happy

Later that night we gave out the prizes for the day with PDO getting first place with a b*filtered* measuring 42cm and because we did not have the noodle chuck because of the wind, Gra was given second prize for his 39cm b*filtered*. The usual carried on through the night with more social drinks and Toni making us yet another cob loaf dip as she had done the night before, just sensational Toni. Wink

Next morning we were woken up by 30 - 50 b*filtered* boats moving out to launch for their competition and soon after we all joined them to have our final fishing session. Paul, Pete and Tom decided to pack up early and head home while the rest of us went for the fish.Wayne D also arrived to have a fish with us.

I worked the bank where Pdo had caught all of his fish and soon discovered they were not there mainly because all the b*filtered* boats had just launched there. It was very windy Sunday morning and I noticed Wayne D and Toni on the opposite bank, so I went over to them and suggested we go to the other end to get away from the dam, it was a long way over but worth it for me in the end any way as I finally caught my second fish for the whole weekend in some weed beds on a popper. I left soon after to go back to camp to find everyone packing up to leave. Wayne soon came back an hour later to report no fish for him. Crying or Very sad

We all had a look at Wayne's new trailer and his new swing then most of us made our way home.

The weekend turned out well except the fish weren't playing the game and it showed just how good PDO has become as a B*filtered* fisherman, he almost immediately realised the b*filtered* weren't feeding on the bottom and soon changed his tactics to fish the surface. In the end Paul caught 25 b*filtered* and took out the Saturday first spot and will collect the $50 Dollar Charltons fishing voucher tommorrow night at our meeting for the largest b*filtered* caught for the weekend, Well done Paul Smile

I'd like to thank everyone for coming along, the conditions and the fish were trying but we all still managed to have a great time, make some new friends and learn more from each other about our great sport.

I can't wait for the next weekend trip, they are just too much fun.

Thanks Again Very Happy

Cheers

Ah, the rainbow so pretty in the sky. Who would have realized it was the Harbringer of Doom? It certainly was the False God before a kick arse storm. In fact it was the storm that killed the Tarp Mahall and Gra's lamp, thus denying him his God Given Right of return for a refund.

Gra and I were so grateful to the Beast that kept us so long at the cove. That trip back across the dam was reminiscent of our trip back from Green Island. All that was missing was the outgoing tide and about 10 degrees C.

Oh Happy Days!

Bloody top weekend folks. Our first quarterly comp weekend off to a roaring success. Was great to fish with all the same people and a couple of new faces. One thing about this club, there's nobody I wouldn't enjoy hanging out and fishing with, they're all good folks. So often when we all fish together I find myself launching with one person, coming back with another and fishing with a couple of others in between, it's a great thing.

Only a couple of fish for me for the weekend, both decent. Still a bit down about the battle (See Main forum for the Tale of The Barratoga) but all in all had a great time. It's a really nice lake with enough size to spread out but still small enough to hang out. Good camp facilities and only one ski boat.
Thanks to Sel for organising the comp and the extra prizes from the cupboard. Thanks to Toni for the cheese ball and thanks to Wazza for the fire keg, a truly wonderful invention.
Also, a big shout out for my homies at Mitre Ten Boonah for taking back all my surplus camping needs.

Gra

Yeah Pete. Stuffed it up as usual. I've burned all photos to disc and I'll happily burn one for any-one who wants it at tonight's meeting.

Hi Everyone,
For the information of those who couldnt get to the meeting last night, My mate who was part of the electric b*filtered* comp told me they had 79 boats there ( no wonder we got woke up) and 38 of them caught nothing. (Including him. who left his main tackle box at home, and "only" had about 20 Jackalls) Their biggest comp fish went 900 gm, I dont know the measurement. He is one of many who want to provide a certain speedboat driver with a new faeces removal orofice.
Some of us didnt do so well on the fishing side either, but I certainly had a great time socially. And we had nice cheesy dip too, thanks to Toni. And Gra shared the Kransky. Maybe thats why the other mob got up and left early Shocked Laughing
See you soon,
Tom

So it was a little windy down there Pete.

Where was the dip when I was at Maroon Toni?????

Paul you the man, great catch of B*filtered* mate. What were the Catfish off the chew?

Just notch up another one for my theory that the peddles scare the fish.

BTW did anyone feed me old mate Joe.....I guess he's a bit hungry by now. Confused

Sounds like it was a fun filled week end again.......hope to make it next time. Smile
